Pier Paolo Posolini was an Italian poet, writer, film director and actor. He was also a painter and political figure, journalist, philosopher and novelist. His style and focus on some taboo sexual matters set him out as a controversial figure in Europe in his time. Posolini published a collection of poems in 1941 that was very much appreciated by intellectual and critics.
A few weeks before the end of World War II Posolini was drafted but subsequently captured by the German army and imprisoned. He managed to escape dressed as a peasant and went to Casarsa. He made his debut as an actor in 1960 in Il gobbo, and co-wrote Long Night in 1943. He first foray into film directing was in 1961 for the film Accattone for which he was also the screenwriter. He was a member of the jury in 1966 in the 16th Berlin International Film Festival.
